MUSICAL STORYTELLING: CARMEN
Bizet’s opera Carmen was no success when it premièred, but ten years later it was widely praised and adored, as it remains to this day. This concert features an orchestral suite from Bizet’s final opera. Ten years after Carmen, Camille Saint-Saëns wrote his third symphony: a magnificent work with a virtuosic piano part and detailed orchestration, amplified by a large pipe organ.
